Welkom in De Wilderness, mijn steeds veranderende speelterrein en artistieke habitat!

Ik ben zangeres, performer en maker, voornamelijk actief in muziek en muziektheater. Mijn bijzondere interesse gaat uit naar hoe talen de zangtechniek, klankkleur en expressie beïnvloeden. Vanuit die nieuwsgierigheid verdiep ik me in traditioneel populair repertoire uit de hele wereld én in westerse traditionele populaire en klassieke liederen. Ik arrangeer en vertolk dit repertoire, vaak terwijl ik mezelf begeleid op instrumenten zoals draaiorgel, autoharp of hommel. Daarnaast werk ik ook in fysiek theater en met improvisatie, zowel muzikaal als performatief.

Ik studeerde aan het Lemmensinstituut in Leuven bij Dina Grossberger en Katelijne Van Laethem, en zette mijn vocale opleiding verder bij Jard Van Nes. Ik werkte samen met ensembles en gezelschappen zoals Correspondances, Servir Antico, Zwerm, Zefiro Torna, Imago Mundi, LOD, Zonzo Compagnie, Emily Wilson & Jos Houben, Ben Frost, Christina Vantzou en Frederik Neyrinck.

Mijn eigen projecten vormen de kern van mijn artistieke werk. Around the World in 72 Songs is een muzikale reis door traditionele populaire liederen uit diverse culturen, gearrangeerd voor stem en draaiorgel, geïnspireerd door Nellie Bly’s 72-daagse wereldreis in 1889. Figurine is een solo-installatievoorstelling die de menselijke ontwikkeling belicht vanuit de steeds veranderende vrouwelijke artistieke identiteit doorheen de geschiedenis. Met Bel Ayre – een duo dat ik samen met gitarist Peter Verhelst oprichtte – onderzoek en creëer ik nieuw liedrepertoire.
Lopend projecten omvatten onder meer La Strada, een participatieve en interdisciplinaire voorstelling die de wortels van de menselijke reisdrift onderzoekt via gemeenschapsverhalen, muziek en gedeelde maaltijden.

In 2021 ontving ik de Vlaamse Cultuurprijs (Ultima) voor Muziek. Sinds 2023 maak ik deel uit van Rif (het vroegere Walpurgis), een Antwerpse werkplaats voor onderzoek, ontwikkeling en creatie van muziektheater, waar ik deel uitmaak van het artistiek coördinerend team. Daarnaast begeleid ik aan het Koninklijk Conservatorium van Antwerpen studenten bij hun Creatief Eindproject.

I am a singer, performer and maker, mainly in the field of music and music theatre. I’m particularly interested in how languages shape vocal technique, tone and expression. This curiosity leads me to dig into traditional popular repertoire from around the world and Western traditional popular and classical songs. I arrange and perform this music, often accompanying myself on instruments such as barrel organ, autoharp or hommel. Alongside this, I work in physical theatre and improvisation, both musically and performatively.

I studied at the Lemmens Institute in Leuven with Dina Grossberger and Katelijne Van Laethem, and continued my vocal training with Jard Van Nes. I’ve performed with ensembles and companies such as Correspondances, Servir Antico, Zwerm, Zefiro Torna, Imago Mundi, LOD, Zonzo Compagnie, Emily Wilson & Jos Houben, Ben Frost, Christina Vantzou and Frederik Neyrinck.

My own projects form the heart of my artistic work. Around the World in 72 Songs is a musical journey through traditional popular songs from diverse cultures, arranged for voice and barrel organ, and inspired by Nellie Bly’s 72-day trip around the world in 1889. Figurine is a solo installation performance that highlights human development through the ever-changing female artistic identity throughout history. With Bel Ayre – a duo I co-founded with guitarist Peter Verhelst – I explore and co-create song repertoire.
Current work includes La Strada, a participatory and interdisciplinary performance that explores the roots of human wanderlust through community stories, music and shared meals.

In 2021, I received the Flemish Culture Prize (Ultima) for Music. Since 2023, I’m part of Rif (formerly Walpurgis), an Antwerp-based workspace for research, development and creation of music theatre, where I am part of the artistic coordinating team. I also am a coach Creative End Project at the Royal Conservatory of Antwerp.
